A deal has been made between the City of Cheyenne and the Cheyenne Professional Firefighters I.A.F.F. Local 279. A two-year labor contract was finalized during a special meeting with the City Council on Thursday night.
Under the new collective bargaining agreement, firefighters will receive a one percent wage increase for the first year of the contract, and no increase for the second year. A joint press release said both parties recognized the current state of the economy and the City’s financial position.
“The Union’s focus for this year’s negotiations was for public safety, ensuring adequate personnel are available, protective equipment for firefighters, and reasonable compensation for the work firefighters perform,” said Jon Bertsch, president of the local union.
Cheyenne Mayor Rick Kaysen called the negotiations professional and respectful.
