Paul Dupont, 70, was struck and killed while riding his bicycle on the shoulder of U.S. 85 about 30 miles northeast of Cheyenne on Thursday afternoon. The Wyoming Highway Patrol reports that a pickup truck crossed over the white lane line and onto the shoulder where Dupont was struck and thrown from the bicycle.

Dupont, of Brussels, Belgium, died at the scene.

The driver of the pickup, Thomas Barnhart of Lincoln, Neb., has been charged with reckless driving and failing to maintain a single lane of travel. Further charges are under review by the District Attorney’s office. Troopers are investigating driver fatigue and improper lane use by Barnhart as contributing factors in the crash.
