After delays, controversy, and questions ground was officially broken on the Cheyenne Civic Center Commons.
The Civic Center Commons is a project being built on Cheyenne’s west edge across the street from the Municipal Building at 2101 O’Neill Avenue. The parking lot is being removed to clear the way for a park and flood control. Mayor Marian Orr says the Civic Center Commons hopefully will spark business development downtown.
“We are breaking ground on what will not only benefit the storm water drainage in our community, but double and serve as a really attractive showcase and show piece that is going to spark what I believe will be fantastic development in the west end”
The ground breaking comes after years of planning and Cheyenne City Council Vice-president Rock Case says it was a long time coming and nice to have the project underway>
‘It means we’re moving forward. It means the community came together, it means the council came together, it means all the departments in the city came together. We going to have flood mitigation along with beautification, along with economic development and its a good thing for the city.”
The project twill cost around 9 million dollars.
