City 9-26, 2016
The intersection of East 19th Street and Warren Avenue will open on Tuesday, September 27 as Phase III of the 19th Street Reconstruction Project moves closer to completion.
On Tuesday, September 27 the intersection of Central Avenue and East 19th Street will be closed for at least three weeks, weather and equipment permitting. Phase III is between Pioneer and Warren Avenues.
Work between Carey and Warren Avenues will include new water lines; sanitary sewer line work along with new manholes; replacing curb, gutter and sidewalk as needed; improvements to stormwater drainage; and new road surface including an asphalt wearing course for longer street life.
Work between Pioneer and Carey Avenues will be less intensive, consisting of placing a new asphalt wearing course in that block only.
During construction, businesses and residences will have access.
The cost of Phase III is $1.213 million. Funding for this project is from the Fifth-Penny Sales Tax and the Board of Public Utilities.
Reconstruction of 19th Street has been a two-year planned project. Phase I was between Warren Avenue and Morrie Avenue which was completed in 2015 at a cost of $3.4 million. Phase II between Crow Creek and Pioneer Avenue was completed in July 2016 at a cost of $5.4 million. Phase III is scheduled for completion in late November 2016.
Reiman Corp. is the general contractor on all three phases of this project.
