Game & Fish Encourages Safe Boating Over 4th of July Weekend

by Kari Eakins – 3 July ’14

Wyoming’s boating season is now in full swing and with the busy Fourth of July weekend coming up, the Wyoming Game and Fish Department reminds boaters to take special care to make sure watercraft regulations are being followed to ensure safety on Wyoming’s waters.

According to the Game and Fish, most boating violations occur from not having appropriate safety equipment on board. In most years, the most common violations include failure to provide life jackets, failure to have an approved throwable floatation device on board and failure to provide a fire extinguisher for boats needing this equipment.

Jeff Obrecht with the Game and Fish says boating under the influence is also a concern. While it is legal for their to be open containers on boats and the driver is allowed to drink, their BAC must be below the legal limit for driving. Obrecht says they will be on the lookout for anyone boating under the influence.
