Inmate Committed Suspected Suicide

On July 20, 2014 the Laramie County Sheriffs Department responded to 116 S. Wyoming Ave in Burns, WY on the report a male shooting a female. As a result of that investigation, the Sheriffs Department arrested Ron Zimmerman for Homicide. A trial ensued and Ron Zimmerman was found guilty at a jury trial of 2nd Degree Murder. On September 18, 2015 Ron Zimmerman was sentenced in District Court to 45 years to life in the State Penitentiary.

On October 13, 2015 at approximately 0140 hours, Ron Zimmerman was found deceased in his jail cell as a result of a suspected hanging. Zimmerman needed a C-PAP machine to assist in his breathing at night and he used the cord from the C-PAP machine to hang himself. At 0055 hours Zimmerman was alive and resting in his cell. At the 0125 hr check the Detention Deputy found Zimmerman sitting at the end of his bed leaning forward and bluish in the face. Zimmerman was still in the Laramie County Detention Facility awaiting his Judgment and Sentencing. Zimmerman was not on a suicide watch nor had he been while in jail, and the deputy in the Pod at the time conducted the properly scheduled checks of the inmates.
