Laramie County Clerk Working to Speed Elections Returns

By Associated Press – 27 Oct ’14

Elections officials in Cheyenne say they’re hoping to speed elections returns.

Laramie County Clerk Debbye Lathrop tells the Wyoming Tribune Eagle that the county has made upgrades so that vote tallies from its 61 precincts come out earlier.

On primary election night in August, Laramie County was one of the last counties in the state to report unofficial election results.

Lathrop says election managers have doubled the number of machines to read memory cards from individual voting machines. That was identified as a bottleneck during the primaries.

She says she hopes the Wyoming Legislature allows for the creation of “vote centers,” instead of requiring voters to cast ballots in home precincts.

She says she’s watching Colorado’s experience with mail-in ballots.
