CHEYENNE,Wyo.— A Cheyenne Police Officer was assaulted Sunday night after responding to a burglary at 207 E. 6th St. at 9:45 p.m.
Daniel Bunning, 22, of Cheyenne, was arrested on Assault on a Police Officer, Unlawful Entry, and Burglary charges.
The Cheyenne Police Officer arrived on scene and contacted Bunning in front of the four-unit residence. Shortly after, Bunning struck the officer in the head with a rotating pushup handle. Bunning fled the scene but was caught two blocks away in the 800 block of House Avenue.
The officer was transported to the Cheyenne Regional Medical Center for her injuries where she was treated and released.
Police responded to the area after receiving a report that Bunning unlawfully entered unit #4, which was occupied by a 63-year-old man. Bunning damaged property inside the unit and then held the man against the wall before leaving. Bunning then allegedly forced his way into unit #3, which was unoccupied at the time, and caused more property damage. Bunning took the rotating pushup handle from unit #3 and went outside where he assaulted the CPD Officer.
This case remains under investigation by the Cheyenne Police Department.
