One Year Later, Cheyenne Police Still Investigating The Coin Shop Murders

By Staff  7-19,2016

The Cheyenne Police Department continues to investigate a double homicide that occurred last July at The Coin Shop, 510 W. Lincolnway.

Since the homicide the Cheyenne Police Department has conducted 130 interviews, 19 search warrants, and has followed up on over 150 tips related to the case.

Over 3,000 man-hours have been put into this case and over 230 pieces of evidence have been collected.  Additionally, several other law enforcement agencies have assisted in the homicide investigation, to include the U.S. Marshals Service and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Several pieces of evidence that were collected from the scene have been sent to crime labs for analysis. The pieces sent for testing were sent to the Wyoming State Crime Lab where DNA was found on the evidence.  The DNA was checked against the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) but did not match any person’s DNA on file.

After being tested at the Wyoming State Crime Lab, the evidence was sent to a Colorado crime lab that uses an alternative technique for collecting DNA.  This technique is called M-VAC and can capture many times more DNA than other methods.  For the evidence to be tested at the lab, a Colorado law enforcement agency had to submit the evidence on behalf of the Cheyenne Police Department.  The CPD is very appreciative of the Thornton Police Department who assisted the CPD in the submission of the evidence. The evidence is currently waiting to be tested by the lab which, along with other labs across the country, has a backlog of evidence to analyze.

Although there was no video in the shop at the time of the homicide, Cheyenne Police Detectives have been able to develop several persons of interest.  There is currently a reward of $11,000 for anyone with information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person who committed the crime.  If anyone has information about this crime please call the Cheyenne Police Department at 307-637-6510 or Silent Witness at 307-638-TIPS.
