State budget shortfalls could have a big impact on school construction in Cheyenne. Governor Matt Mead has announced the state is looking at ways to make cuts and save money in the face of what could be a 200 million dollars budget shortfall, and it could mean the slowdown of school construction. Laramie County School District No.1 Superintendent John Lyttle said if school construction is cut back, it could have a huge impact on overcrowding in Cheyenne schools.
Lyttle says the district is already building the new Meadlowlark school and hope to have it done by next school year, but at the rate the district is growing, he said, they could need one or two new schools a year just to keep up with student numbers.
