Worthman Named Director of Botanic Gardens

City   4-30-18

Tina Worthman has been named Director for the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens, effective immediately.

Worthman moves into the role after a year as Assistant Director for the Gardens. She was most recently named Interim Director upon Shane Smith’s retirement in March after 40 years in the position. Her tenure at the Gardens began over three years ago with fundraising for the new Grand Conservatory.

“Tina possesses a deep passion for the Gardens, has a proven track record with her common sense administrative approach, innovation, and community outreach skills. The Gardens continue to be in good hands.” Said Community Recreation and Events Director, Teresa Moore.

Worthman brings to the position a 20-year track record of promoting and managing quality of life organizations and a focus to create educational and cultural experiences for the public.

As Director, Worthman notes short-term goals of completing construction and landscaping throughout the Botanic Gardens complex for visitors and residents to enjoy this summer.

“I am very excited to be the new Director of the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens,” Worthman said. “With the opening of the new Grand Conservatory, I look forward to guiding our tremendous staff with the growing emphasis on being a tourism destination as well as a garden and gathering space for education and enrichment in our community. I would like to thank leadership in the city for showing confidence in my abilities and giving me this opportunity.”

In the long term, Worthman looks to offer more year-round cultural and educational experiences for the public to enjoy in addition to the already popular indoor conservatory and garden space. Worthman and the Botanic Gardens staff also have their sights set on 2019 to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the Paul Smith Children’s Village.

Outside of her duties with the Botanic Gardens, Worthman remains active in the community. She is a board member for Safehouse Services of Laramie County, Wyoming Arts Alliance, and the Wyoming Historic Governors’ Mansion Foundation. She is a recipient of the John Cotton Dana Award from her work as a Publications and Marketing Manager with the Wyoming State Library.

Worthman holds a Bachelor of Journalism degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
