Wyoming Gay Couples Seek Ruling Allowing Marriage

by Associated Press – 1 July ’14

Four gay couples who have sued to gain the right to marry in Wyoming are asking a judge to immediately rule in their favor after a recent ruling by a federal appeals court.

The couples filed suit in March in state district court in Cheyenne. They filed a motion for summary judgment Tuesday.

Last Wednesday, the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals in Denver ruled in favor of allowing gay marriage in Utah. The ruling doesn’t allow gay marriage in Wyoming.

Even so, the couples suing in Wyoming state court say that every state and federal court that has considered the issue of the past year has ruled in favor of gay marriage.

Gov. Matt Mead says he will continue to defend Wyoming’s existing law.
