The new Wyoming lottery has made winners out of some players and a few venerable state institutions and events as well.
Since it began operations this year, the Wyoming Lottery Corp. has worked out contracts to become a sponsor of University of Wyoming athletics, Cheyenne Frontier Days and the State Fair.
Wyoming Lottery CEO Jon Clontz says the lottery tries to do everything it can to turn money back into the state economy.
The sponsorships do that and give the lottery public exposure at the same time.
Wyoming entered the nationwide jackpot frenzy in August, selling Powerball and Mega Millions tickets.
The lottery’s sponsorship with UW athletics is the largest at $242,400 over three years. The money goes to UW’s general operating fund for athletics.
