A Cheyenne Frontier Days official says a cowboy helper used an electric prod to shock a horse during the saddle bronc event.
Shocking horses can cause them to buck more wildly. The practice was banned at CFD in 2008.
The issue came up Friday when videotape by an animal rights group appeared to show someone using the prod on at least one horse during the event.
CFD spokesman Bob Budd told the Wyoming Tribune Eagle that a subsequent investigation confirmed one incident.
He said the cowboy helper involved has been reprimanded and informed of CFD’s policy.
Budd says the rodeo’s stock contractor didn’t had any role in the incident.
