The last time the AA State American Legion baseball tournament was held in Gillette, it wasn’t a memorable trip for Cheyenne Post 6. They went to the Razor City having won seven straight state championships, but injuries, and a talented Gillette ballclub, ended that streak. Now, the Sixers head to Gillette having won five straight state titles, and 12 of 13, but face some similar issues. Post 6 has gone through a typical season, going 42-20 heading into state, but injuries have mounted as the season has gone on.
But as everyone remembers what happened in 2008, when the Roughriders snapped that streak, Post 6 manager Tagg Lain is reminded of where that streak started in 2001, which was Gillette. But he adds that it’s still going to be a challenge.
The AA state tournament begins today (Wednesday) in Gillette. It’s a five-team, double-elimination bracket. Looking at the matchups:
Wednesady
Jackson vs. Sheridan–7 pm
Thursday
Cheyenne Post 6 vs. Casper– 4 pm
Gillette vs. Jackson/Sheridan winner –7 pm
