The Cheyenne East volleyball team earned a spot in the Class 4A state championship volleyball match with a sweep of Sheridan on Friday in Casper (25-13, 25-20, 25-14).
Just six days earlier, Sheridan had upset East at the regional tournament, but Coach Dan Box said after Friday’s match that the Lady T-Birds played with much more focus and tougher defense to make sure the Lady Broncs didn’t beat them.
East was led by Cosette Stellern with 11 kills and 4 blocks; Lindsey Grantz had 7 kills and 10 digs, Whitney Kailey had 11 kills and Kayla Higgins had 33 assists.
The Lady T-Birds will play Kelly Walsh for the title at 4 p.m. on Saturday. The Lady Trojans beat Cheyenne Central in a semifinal match on Friday (25-16, 25-12, 16-25, 25-22).
That loss for Central moves them into the consolation bracket. They will play Natrona at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
All state volleyball games played on Saturday will be broadcast on AM-1240.
