A long-time corporate supporter of educational programs for underprivileged children in southeast Wyoming made a major new commitment today to the Boys & Girls Club of Cheyenne.

The HollyFrontier Cheyenne Refinery pledged $95,000 in both 2015 and 2016 to the Boys & Girls Club at a ceremony at the club’s new facility at 515 Jefferson Road on Cheyenne’s south side, taking the company’s total 3-year commitment to the Boys & Girls Club to $285,000.

“We continued our commitment because of the immensely positive impact this organization has on Cheyenne’s kids,” said Mike Achacoso, Vice President and Plant Manager of the Cheyenne Refinery. “Not only does the club offer children a safe place to go after school, but these educational programs provide additional skills and training that helps prepare them for success later in life.”

The club recently moved into a $5.9 million new clubhouse that will allow it to double the daily attendance and accommodate enrollment up to 1,000 children per year.

“The long-term support we’ve received from HollyFrontier has been transformational for us,” said Rolinda Sample, Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Club of Cheyenne. “We are passionate about great futures for kids, but we need the support of companies like HollyFrontier to do what we do. It’s hard to explain how much this means to our organization and the kids we care so much about.”

HollyFrontier’s commitment to the Boys and Girls Club of Cheyenne began in 2009, when it began to sponsor the following educational programs:

  • Homework assistance
  • High-yield math, science, and reading activities
  • Robotics and Technology
  • Science Club

Since 2009, HollyFrontier has dedicated more than $570,000 to support educational programming at the club.

“This support allowed kids to attend homework club and activities 52,232 times from 2009-2014,” Sample added. “With the increase in Club space in our new facility, the number of children who can benefit from these services will also increase and we’re so grateful for HollyFrontier’s support.”

HollyFrontier’s total commitment from 2009 thru 2017 totals $855,000 making it by far the group’s largest corporate supporter.
