Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources John Lyttle has been selected as the interim superintendent for Laramie County School District #1. The LCSD1 Board of Trustees chose Lyttle on Monday night over Director of Instruction Marc LaHiff and Assistant Director of Instruction Brent Young.
Statements were made by each candidate before the board went into executive session to discuss their decision. After a little more than half an hour, the board emerged and then unanimously approved a motion to make Lyttle the interim superintendent through June 30, 2015.
“It was a spirited discussion with everyone expressing their views and opinions,” said Board Chairman Hank Bailey of the executive session. “I feel settled that we have reached a good point and that this district will continue to progress under the new leadership.”
Lyttle said he wants a more detailed plan to bring up graduation rates and to see the academic gains made recently in math and language arts extend to other content areas.
