Governor Mead Advocates Caution in Tax Increase Considerations

Staff   9-1, 2016

Governor Mead says the state needs to move with caution before increasing taxes. The revenue picture for the State of Wyoming is still looking bleak and, in an effort to increase revenues, a legislative committee is looking into the state’s tax structure. The Revenue Committee is considering removing certain manufacturing tax exemptions and looking at more tax on wind energy among others. Governor Matt Mead says they need to be cautious with that approach because the State can’t tax its way out of the economic downturn.

Mead says right now he’s not in favor of more taxes on wind energy, but he will keep an open mind.

Mead says before more taxes are added, the State really needs to look at the rainy day fund and how it is used.
